Klips 1/2016

Heather Hayward

The year of 2016 has come to an end with a few changes having occurring along the way, mainly a change of President and some new committee members coming on-board. I believe this is the first female President the Club has had, so I am proud to be that person and appreciate your trust in me in leading the club through the next year.

I would like to thank our past and new Committee members for committing to another year of helping to lead the way for another successful year. A special thanks to our Club Secretary for all the behind the scenes work that she does. (A bit of info; Glenda has been Minute Secretary for the last 25 years and Club Secretary for the 11 years. That's dedication for you.)

A few of our members have taken on the task of producing interview type documentaries. Jeff Licence, the GC local ABC Open Producer has conducted some documentary making workshops with a view of club members producing interview/documentary videos to put online. I can assure you it is not as easy as it looks. There is a lot of preparation that goes into making these videos. Just finding an interesting subject is no mean feat in itself. Then you have all the research that is necessary before you start your interview. Once you have filmed your talent you then have to add your B-roll to add interest and edit out a lot of "umms" and "arrs", but when its finished it gives you a great sense of achievement, and an excellent way of honing your videoing skills. This year Colin Usher, Jorg Fedler, Garth and Glenda Threlfall and myself have all produced videos for the ABC Open page. The videos have listed on the 'Makers Creators' project and 'My Back Roads' project. All of these videos have had a very favourable response and been shared onto the ABC Gold Coast Facebook page and the national ABC Open Facebook page and received a lot of public attention. So congratulations to those involved for a job well done.

Next year we are having a change from the monthly assignments of 2 video subjects per month. There will now be a broad range of subjects to choose from. You can choose as many or a little as you wish and show them at the club meetings in any order you choose. There are no set guidelines. Hopefully you can let your imagination run wild when presenting a video from the list.

I would like to invite the club members to become more social as a group and enjoy an occasional picnic in the park or short walks within the area with our cameras sharing tips and knowledge. Anyone interested in becoming Social Secretary?

We are also in the process of updating our website, hopefully it will be up and running in January. We will keep you posted. Our first meeting for 2017 will be on Wednesday 11th January, so I hope to see you all there.

Membership renewal is due on 10th January 2017, $45.00 per single, life members $27.50 and correspondent members $25.00. Payments can be made on the first club meeting of the year or paid into our club bank account Bendigo Bank BSB 633-000 Account No158471250.

Finally on behalf of the Committee I would like to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Keep on videoing
Heather Hayward
